every girl has one and if they don't. ai ai ai ai...
the importance of a winglady has been proven time and time again, in cheesy movies and dark lit bars. she is there to boost your confidence, keep you smiling and the important bit: keep you from NOT making those horrible drunken decisions...
now i have been through a few wingladies over the years. the oldest one i have is @vonimoller. i've known her as i say so often: the best half of my life, we met in primary school and i still say the only reason we became friends is cause she scared me into it! now we were not party buddies and never have been, bar the odd occasion. this lady taught me to stand up for myself, she taught me to use my loudness well :) (and is still there for the emotional support a girl needs)
next up we had a few years of bouncing around schools, i was in La Rochelle and let me tell you something, there is no man that can break you down as well as another female! i spent the years ana and training for every sport possible so that i did not have to spend my time around the hostel. i was gorgeous, your perfect model: no fat and huge boobs, but no confidence what so ever so i hid in my sport.
then came table view... there is something about cape town that changes a person. and i can say this honestly as i have lived in a good few places over my years. table view high brought with it new challenges. i was thrown back into "normal" schooling system and my grades plummeted for a while. i mean who wants to be the over achiever right? the hockey team was shite, no athletics, the riding school here was horrid and no swim team. so i went from waking up at 4am to start training to not training at all...
table view also brought with it a few new wingladies. the one who stood out the most was pooky. she took the broken confidence and brought it back up even higher, not sure if that was a good thing though as i'm pretty sure it was the reason i was such a horrid teen (i apologise profusely to my parents) she was the ultimate winglady, we would go out and play a game: we each get to pick a guy wherever we were and the other had to go hookup with him, round of drinks on the chooser if you do. yes this got me into TONS of trouble, particularly as i don't back down from a dare all that easily as well as the facts: a) i never paid much attention as to who i was in school with b) this is table view... good gossip travels FAST
in germany i had a wingman, just as good though trickier... you see a wingman can be brilliant in the sense that men generally want what they can't have. the only problem is that most men are also too chicken shit to talk to a girl... especially when she's with another man.
which brings us to now... i've been without a proper winglady for a while, @lousteyl has been a great friend though our taste in men differs to the opposite extremes (which has it's benefits) but her being in a fixed relationship etc... it makes things difficult.
my current winglady, if you follow me on twitter you'll know about #soulmate. she is gorgeous (and i'm not just saying this, she's an effing model) and a singlemom to a cute lil toddler 3 months younger than fish. now how we clicked i have NO idea, but this lady is the ying to my yang. we have been stomping it at origin, eating cake at toddlers parties and downing patron at tiger. but what brought this on was a comment she made one evening: we were doing a ladies night out, just her me and a whole lot of boys buying us drinks. some very random guy pulls her aside to dance, the look on her face had me in stitches, to the point where i couldn't save her from him. her reaction: you are a terrible winglady. and that's when i realised just what an important role the ladies (and the gents) play in our lives...
we have tons of friends, aquintances, people we know.
each of them have reason for being around.
but there will always be that one: your winglady.
she (or he) is the one that keeps you young.
every girl should have one...
